In the wake of the devasating defeat of the Hyde Park Republican party, it is speculated if the party will ever recover from the turbulence that has occured over the course of the past several years.

It is evident through what can be described as the triumphant victory of the Democratic Party in a clean sweep of the Town Board that the republican party is lacking.

The Hyde Park Republican Party has been mismanaged for several years due to the incompetence and poor decisions made by party leaders, that was blatantly demonstrated through their endorsement of a poorly qualified and unelectable candidate. Through this endorsement they have sent the message  that they do not have their party's best interests in mind. The question is, who's interests do they have in mind.

To support the argument that the Republican Party has suffered by the ill-wise decisions of the party leaders, we may refer to key events that occured over the past two years.

1) The Republican Party sough out virtually unknown candidates in both 2009 and 2011 election. It must be questioned why the party leaders must seek out individuals that have no history of being active in the party. In fact, Mr. Kakish did not even have a history of partaking in the voting process since he moved to HydePark in 2004. While Mr. Martino has received heat from the public due to reasons which will be explained in the below, Mr. Kakish demonstrated that he was unfit for the position,  this statement supported in the times when he opened his mouth. It could be speculated that those individuals who are capable of becoming a qualified candidate are shunned by the party leaders because they would lose their power as they wouldn't be required for 'guidance and direction.'

2) After being slighted by the rejection of the Town Board for a policy advisory position, Jim Langan used the power of the media against the town board for more than eighteen months.

On a weekly basis, the Town Board was featured on the cover and when the bookkeeper position was eliminated, he organized demonstrations and protests that disrupted the town board meetings, placing the board members in a rather bad position and unfavorable light. These board members were simply doing the job that they had set out to do and not making decisions based upon friendships or favors as there campaign platform was 'People,  Not Politics.' These protests were the result of the elimination of a position held by a person that just didn't make one mistake, she made subsequent and significant mistakes. The 2006 budget audit posted on a seperate blog presents the errors that she made.

Did this action warrant the massive protests? In the real world, it wouldn't. Especially when that individual has demonstrated poor peformance, but in the world of Hyde Park politics, influenced by Jim Langan it does. The demonstraters in fact were simply being used by Jim Langan all out of spite towards a town board that spurned him. (I wonder how those demonstraters now feel knowing that they were used by a thief and liar as  Jim Langan has been outed as a thief and deadbeat).

3) Which leads to the final and most important argument. Mr. Langan's campaign to destroy the Town Board was done with the blessing of the party leaders. In fact, the McArthurs adverstised their business, Pay-Less Oil within the very pages of the HV News. Using your critical thinking skills, what does that tell you about the leadership of the Republican Party. They allow another so-called Republican to use his newspaper to undermine the Town Board based upon unfounded information, opinion and his own vengence. This demonstrates a total lack of infrastructure and unity within the party.

Final Thought: The Republican Party reaped what they sow with this election. By allowing the current town board to be subjected to Mr. Langan's weekly tirade of venom, they were in fact, unknowingly setting themselves up for future failures because the people of Hyde Park who read Mr. Langan's paper will forever associate the Republicans with 'the crap that was going on with that republican town board,' thus ensuring future democratic victories.

For the best interest and health of the Hyde Park Republican Party, perhaps its best that the current leadership step down to allow individuals who are focused on creating unity within the party take the helm so that the party may actually win an election (without running unopposed).

I have also submitted this to the Poughkeepsie Journal and Hudson Valley News - let's see if it is printed:

Open Letter to Hyde Park Republicans:

Jean McArthur should step down as Chair of the Hyde Park Republican Committee. The events over the past year and a half are the primary reason.

Flashback to the 2009 election, a grand victory for the Hyde Park Republican party, just a year removed from “yes we can” and a Barack Obama landslide victory, the Hyde Park Republicans swept the town board. Running on traditional republican values of individual rights and fiscal responsibility, Hyde Park elected Mr. Martino Supervisor and fellow republicans Mr. Athenas, Mrs. Serino, Mr. Monks and Mr. Taylor as board members from the four wards in Hyde Park.

All but one, Mrs. Serino, followed through on campaign promises of voting to repeal an over reaching and anti-property ownership wetlands law, fiscal responsibility (0.9% tax increase in 2011), encouraging business in the town (trying to cripple an over-reaching and anti-business zone board) and holding responsible those who serve the town (firing an incompetent bookkeeper).

As a Republican, I would have thought that Mrs. Serino would not have received the endorsement of McArthur and the Town of Hyde Park Republican Committee and thus the Republican line based on the absence of following through on her campaign promises and failure to stick to Republican values. Instead, the Supervisor and three board members who actually stuck to campaign promises were the ones who did not receive the endorsement.

From watching local news and reading local newspapers it is obvious there were some personal issues, or as I like to call them High Schoolish behavior, between McArthur and Martino. I am not privy to the details as I have no firsthand knowledge of why a rift occurred. I can only comment as a hard working registered republican and consistent voter. My observation is simple, Martino and the other board members governed as I would expect a Republican to govern; fiscally responsible, protecting individual’s rights, pro small business and not beholden to “political favors”. I don’t care what personal issues exist between our current Supervisor, three board members and McArthur and the Town Republican Committee, they should be able to work around those personal issues for the good of the Hyde Park.

As the Chair of the Committee, McArthur should have risen above the fray, displayed leadership and understood the best chance of retaining the Republican majority on the Town Board was by endorsing those Republicans on the Town Board – Martino, Taylor, Monks and Athenas !

Her failure in this election is evident, embarrassing and detrimental to Hyde Park as we now have an all Democratic Board. The only Republican to win a town post was Francine DiGrandi who, of all things, was appointed by Martino and the outgoing Town Board. Ironic, isn’t it. As a Hyde Park Republican, I urge my fellow Hyde Park Republicans to ask for the resignation of Jean McArthur as Chairwoman of the Town Republican Committee effective immediately.

Perhaps if she wishes to continue in politics, she can find a home with the Democrats as the Ward 4 Councilman-Elect and former Republican Kenneth Schneider did.

Martino's statement at the Nov. 10 meeting that he was a Hyde Parker first really hit home. This man stood up to the politicals thugs such as the McArthurs and other so called leading Republicans. The only board member that complied to the McArthurs demands was Serino. I am afraid that the McArthurs and their flunkies did irrepairable harm to the Hyde Park Republicans. They should do the right thing and resign.

Has the public seen who is on the HP Republican Committee? Ninety percent of that committee have issues. Most have been hand picked by Mr. & Mrs. Mobile Manor themselves, Jean and Yancy. Most on that committee are not capable of thinking for themselves,, including some professionals, i.e.: attorneys. I am afraid to say it, but the HP Republican Party has been rendered defunct by the McArthurs and Anne Boehm. They are a true disgrace.

jean m, should have resigned 2 years ago, but all the back room promices had to be filled. A certian lawyer, was to be hired, a certian pant wetter was to be on the Police advisory committe, a certian Police Station was NOT to be built, certian sherif's deputies were to patrol Hyde Park streets, the list goes on for miles, chroneyism at it's best. Before the Town Board took their oaths she told them the rep. com. tells the board what to do! IN A PIG"S EYE!

The McArthurs threaten and coerce those who oppose them in any way on any subject. They are nothing but trailer park thugs who crave respectibility in the Republican and Hyde Park community. Unfortunately, they lack the breeding to exercise civility in their daily interactions. The should be labeled "Trailer Park Mafia" but that would be derogatory to the real Mafia. They have now allied themselves with the larcenous Jim Langan who has become a social outcast as of late since his act embezzeling his former clients funds was exposed. This clearly shows how desperate these people are for social acceptance. Go back to the trailer park where you belong and take the Langans with you!

I saw Langan at the FDR place last week for a veteran event. My first question is why was he there? My second question is does he have Contiguous disease? I only ask this question because not one person spoke with him.

How stupid is Langan? This jerk refers to two retired military personnel as Nazis and then shows up at an event honoring our veterans. He just doesn't get it. I think it correct to state that now that Langan has been exposed for the thief that he is, he viewed as a pariah. His only friends are the Serinos, the McArthurs and Joe Kakish along with the losing Republican candidates of the Nov. 8 election. It is hoped that Langan and his paper will soon fade into history. The town will be a much better place without him and his rag.

Joe Kakish stated at the November 8 town board meeting that he attended a meeting on the 2% tax cap. It was obvious that his attendance at that meeting went for nothing. This guy is absolutely clueless. He should give it up and get a real job rather than associating with the likes of the McArthurs, Serinos, Langans and their flunkies.
