On February 19th, a vote will be held to determine the fate of the proposed $4 million firehouse that is slated to be built on Route 9G adjacent to Wright Ave.

The writers at the HV News Lies recently read the article in the February 13-16th edition of the Northern Dutchess News that addressed the questionable procedures of the district.

Facts:

1) The fire department unlawfully acquired the land in 2010 when it was purchased outright (in cash) without a public vote. According to law, fire districts must set a mandatory referendum to establish specific capital reserve funds.
2) Capital reserve funds were not created for the purpose of purchasing this land, which is required by law in order to track and account for monies.
3) The purchase of the land was paid for in cash in the amount of $377,000. This raises several red flags. In contrast, The town of Hyde Park had to receive a donation of land in order to have a police station built. It is quite baffling as to how, in these difficult financial times when many municipalities are struggling, the district had the ability to purchase land (as well as equipment that was not needed or practical) outright on a cash basis.
4) The Fire Department has a reserve balance of $1.8 million dollars. This is more than what the town of Hyde Park possesses in its reserve balance.  Proportionally speaking,  the town would have $8 million dollars in the general fund  if the amount was a  ratio of to what the Fire District has in theirs. Final conclusion: the fire district has TWO years worth of their annual budget in their general fund, which indicates that they have been accruing more money and more money even though they have been spending. This equates that have been most likely taking in more money than they should have through taxation.
5) The fire department has a budget of approx. $900,000. Compare this to the Hyde Park Police Department which is slighty more. Do note that the police department is a 24/7 operation that has paid personnel in comparision to a volunteer  operation that responds to a fraction of the calls the HPPD receives. Also note that the police/court facility was built for $2.8 million. Why would it cost an additional $1.2 million for a volunteer based firehouse? Are all the luxury features that include bunk rooms and a state of the art kitchen indicative of future plans that the district will force a transition from a volunteer to a paid staff?
6) The fire department has been purchasing unnecessary equipment without voter approval. Why would the fire district need a 110 ft. ladder truck when the highest structure in the district is no more than three stories? A pumper truck was purchased in 2009 in cash in the amount of $350,000, however, a tanker would have been more practical as it can hold more water per gallon than a pumper. But of course, it's much cooler to drive a pumper truck in the Hyde Park parades.Ask anyone that gets to drive it.
7) A look into the call history reveals that Fire Engine 3 responded to 10 calls per their call log in 2012, the majority of which were mutual aid calls. Does this volume of calls warrant a $4 million firehouse that is equipped with bunker rooms for overnight stays? Will this $4 million structure be just an overpriced clubhouse? The writers were informed  that the pool table at the present firehouse attracts the younger and under/unemployed members to spend their days there (when they should be out looking for work).
8) The writers find it amusing that the fire department has the gall to solicit for donations online. Considering that it has the ability to make purchases in cash and possesses $1.8 million in their reserve funds, it is rather absurd that it should ask the taxpayers for even more money (they even accept paypal for those that do not possess credit cards).

It appears that the fire district has been pulling out all the bells and whistles at the expense of the unsuspecting taxpayers to fund their project. Unfortunately it has been a lack of oversight that has enabled special districts to abuse their power and it's time that they should be held accountable to those that fund the unlawful expenditures, that being the taxpayers.

I did become involved when I heard of the RFD planning to hold an election on the proposal for a new fire house to be located at 830 Route 9G. Since I had Mr. Desmond's business card, he was the only one that I could make contact with. This was given to me when he tried to convince that they were not going to combine with RFD. Funny, he was knocking on my door the same day the letter was in the paper. I did go to the first meeting held in June 2012 where it was never mentioned that they would include a state of the art kitchen and sleeping area. It was only an informational meeting but when the said the all emergency vehicles would have to exit out onto Rte. 9G and I questioned what happens if there was an emergency call and the traffic is backed up like it does
and would a light need to be put there like they have in front of Fairview. I was told that the State Dept. of Transportation and I asked if they got a call when it was backed up, what would they do. I could go on even further since I attended the last public meeting prior to the vote (Feb. 7th, 2013) held at the fire house at 7 PM which, by the way, Mr. Desmond told me there wouldn't be a meeting until after the vote. I just told him I think you must have misspoken or thought I am dumb.
I have a sign in my yard and when Mr. Lombardi started
.complaining about these signs in yards and I told him that he must have drove by my house and that I informed that the sign is taking down at night as Hyde Park is known as a town of sign stealers.

Dear taxpayer, I think you are to kind. You referred to Lombardi as Mr. Lombardi. This man deserves no such title or prefix. If you are going to refer to him as Mr. you should refer to him as Mr. Scumbardi, god knows how many people in our community this man has screwed over. Six degrees of separation is the theory that anyone on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries. There should be a theory called "The six degrees of  John Scumbardi" which means that everyone in our community can can be connected to any other person through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries that have been screwed over by John Lombardi. To tell you the truth you can probably narrow it down to "The Two degrees of John Scumbordi"

I wonder if he is trying to weasel his way in building the new firehouse. He is probably collecting tree stumps to use as fill, in 15 years we will be voting on another firehouse after the new building collapses. Did not know he was still around, I heard that all his equipment was seized or sold off about 10 years ago to pay off outstanding debts and judgments.

ENEMY OF JEAN

I had an interesting experience with Jean MacArthur this past week. I was provided with postcards to distribute to possible voters in the RFD#3 district and urge them to go out to vote. Of course, one card had Yancy's face with the fact about sign stealers.
At 4:07 PM, Thursday, Feb. 14th, I got a call from Jean and was told that I should stop doing the dirty work of Tom or they will take me to court and I would lose everything. On Friday, I went to the Hyde Park Police Station and reported this and the officer I talked with said he would go to her and tell her not to call me again. After leaving there I stopped to pick up some items I needed and as I pulled into my drive way, the office pulled in after me and told me he had talked to her and she will not call you again as she wanted to remain friends with me. She said that the one card I distributed had a picture of her husband on it.

The situation of which ENEMY OF JEAN described is very much typical of both Jean and Yancy McArthur. Their mode of operation is to lie, deceive, intimidate and threaten those who do not comply with their vision of The World Acording to the McArthurs. These people are no better than street thugs. BTW-I received a YANCT/THIEF postcard which put me on to the site. I am so glad that ENEMY OF JEAN called the police and that there are people who are exposing these two creeps for what they are.

Yancy is not even a good street thug, you have to have backbone. Yancy is a big pussy, so I guess this is yet one more thing he is not good at. The guy is not even a good thief, a street thug is a step from bad thief. His mamma should have named him Nancy

I drove on Franklin Rd today and saw this sign in big red letters that read something like, 'thank you voters of the Roosevelt fire district. (Signed) Yancy McArthur
How tacky. This guy has to attach his name to everything which clearly indicates that he most likely he was probably passed over as team captains in gym class and voted most likely NOT to succeed in his Jr. high school superlatives. Based upon his election record, his classmates were into something.

I too have seen McArthur's latest expression of ego mania. I believe it safe to say that McArthur's sign is perhaps the only sign in Hyde Park that is safe from being stolen.

It has long been rumored that 'Scumbardi' was Raucci's bag man. According to several well placed sources, Scumbardi spilled hit guts to the authorities when question about the activities of Paroli and Raucci. Many will recall that Raucci was found floating in the river and Parloli went to prison. Scumbardi got a get out of jail free card for his role with the feds. Scumbardi is not a nice person by any stretch of the imagination. Check the Dutchess County Clerk's site and see how many judgements this clown has against him, Talk about unsavory! Don't forget that Scumbardi is just one of the McArthur's flunkies.

I think that is a splendid proposal. Martino is one of the few who posess the cajones to stand up to those who are somewhat unsavory. He took on the profligate liar Jim Langan. What about that raving maniac of a Highwat Supt. Walt Doyle during town board meetings? He stood up to him and who can forget Sue Serino's alcohol induced rants when she was on the town board? Martino dealt with her too. Martino refused to bend to the collective lunacy of Jean & Nancy McArthur. God help Hyde Park if he did. Washed up? I don't think so. He has my vote.

Glad to hear the positive reaction. Just because you appear to be a total loser and act like a crazy man holding up signs....this proves looks are not always what they appear. Sure Tom has lost a few steps and seems downright creepy to many...but they say Kobe had lost a few steps before this season. Get the Govenor's Mansion ready. Go Tom and Go Lakers.

The only creepy thing going on in Hyde Park is Yancy's Pedophile looking mustache. No one gave him the news that mustaches went out in the 80's. No one has also informed him that driving a white cargo van with no windows while sporting that mustache might seem creepy to some people

Yancy actually thinks that he is an integral part of the Hyde Park community. What a joke! An even bigger joke is his so called wife who thinks that she is the Queen of England come to Hyde Park. We Democrats love these two misfits. They handed us the town board in 2011 and will probably do it again this year.

I find it appalling that the editors of this website refuse to get the facts straight. I will not weigh in on the political side of it but I am disgusted at how they can print such egregiously wrong information! Anyone who lives near sta 3 or any of the firehouse can attest that they receive more than 10 calls a year. Also a tanker holds more water per gallon? Really?!? Last time I checked a gallon of water is a gallon of water regardless of its container. I am a firm believer that everyone should have the chance to express their personal beliefs and I also believe everyone should respect others even if they don't agree but when one is going to post wrong information in attempt to lure others into a false belief they need to be corrected. I know having lived in this fire district for years, that the fire dept has always been more than friendly and welcoming when it came to answers about questions and clarification on issues. Has the writer of this article even tried stopping by the firehouse and asking for explanations on operations? I am willing to bet they simply hid behind a FOIL request and just used the info from that to write this story. Don't let your hatred for one man who is a part of the district, allow you hate on a fire district who is filled with great people who have saved countless properties and lives.

Well I will try once again to comment & try to help my old department. Tom Martino you are a spineless individual. The X & O's are backed up by a NYS Forester. I still have copies of this. When will you and other politicians admit that you are bad for Hyde Park & not Steven J. Costa .. I have done more volunteer work in Hyde Park than you will ever even try too. The Recent Regina Coeli Fest is proof of this. What have you done except continue to hide behind this web Site article. You dare to call your self a CHRISTIAN.
